ATLAS.ti en Mac

Tengo un Mac, ¿funciona ATLAS.ti en un Mac?

Principal Arriba

ATLAS.ti still needs to be installed in a Windows world but the hardware no longer needs to be simulated in a resource-draining manner. There are several ways to create a Windows world on an Intel Mac:

Apple Bootcamp

It allows you to install the Windows operating system on the Intel Mac and decide upon startup which operating system you'd like to start.

Parallels

The parallels desktop allows you to simultaneously run Mac OS and the Windows operating system - you can switch from one operating system (and its features) to the other at the push of a button.

VMWare Fusion

This virtualization product also allows you to simultaneously run MAC OS and the Windows operating system. It also lets you easily share data between the two operating systems by simply dragging and dropping files and data from one environment to the other.

Older (Non-Intel) Macs

On older Macs, simulating a Windows environment is possible through "classic" PC emulator software such as VirtualPC. Here you have to install a Virtual PC that emulates a PC environment on which ATLAS.ti can be installed.

Please note: All of the above solutions require you to purchase your own separate Windows license to work. Also, please direct any specific questions re. these options to your regular Mac support or other pertinent Mac resource. ATLAS.ti GmbH can only assist with issues specific to its own software on Windows operating systems.

The effort to create a 100% clone for the Mac world is rather high: gross estimate would be 4-5 (wo)man years. We are currently considering and exploring other alternatives with ATLAS.ti running as a service served from a remote host. The client would either be a lightweight user interface running on several platforms (Windows, OS/X, iPhone) or - zero install - running in a web browser client. Of course, the later would be the most  "crippled" variant regarding functionality. But reduced functionality may be a favorable idea anyway, as iPhone apps show us. Managing codes and memos away from the office (even in the field), taking photos and make them a PD instantly, even creating networks using your fingers, all this can be partial tasks that may become a reality (you already know, that I am an iPhone fan, Jeanine?-).
But this is a bit of future music, as performance and security issues still have to be solved for a pure SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) approach. And of course, the development of this architecture is not trivial as well.
With the advent of Intel processors in the Mac world, Apple (and Parallels) has opened a door (which they needed to) to Windows, may this be good or devilish, and indeed the co-existence of both worlds works rather seemlessly. If it wasn't for the minor driver support of the other hardware components, one could even argue if the Mac wouldn't be the better Windows computer.
Problems which can be pinned to conversion issues are usually solved already. For instance, to play WMA files on your Mac you would simply install Flip4Mac
